Ravishing Florals, Light-Filled Landscapes, and Hidden Dimensions: Three local painters (Sujata Dey-Koontz, Dawn Dohl, and Anneke Miller) exalt nature with dreamy and detailed figurative works using oil, acrylic, watercolor, and gouache.
Sujata Dey-Koontz: Creativity is a Journey of authenticity. Inspiration can be freely expressed when the body feels safe and the mind is calm. As an artist and mother, Dey-Koontz is guided by the understanding that children, like flower buds in Vedic philosophy, bloom when their essential needs are met—and they must be allowed to bloom as themselves. A rose does not strain to be a sunflower. Alongside her art, Dey-Koontz advocates for legislative changes to educate about diagnosis and interventions harming and provoking mental health crises of mothers and children during custody decisions, and parallels in the Troubled Teen Industry.
Dawn Dohl: Through the intensification of color and generalization of organic forms, Dawn’s otherworldly landscapes give the viewer the sense of unearthing the hidden and peeking into an unseen dimension.
Anneke Miller: I primarily use oils, watercolors, and gouache to create landscapes, both urban and rural, and still life paintings. I draw inspiration from the impressionists’ compositions and use of light and color. Some paintings are completed plein air and some are completed in my studio.
