Yeong Choi
Yeong Choi is an experienced painter based in the US who has exhibited her work in South Korea, Israel and North America. Inspired by life in all its forms, she explores the interconnectedness of living beings, portraying the vitality of water buffalos one minute and abstract representations of her inner world the next. Overall, she dances effortlessly between the expressive and the abstract to achieve a body of work full of diversity and independent spirit.
Following the glimpses of life aims to convey a journey to discover the true essence of life. Through various series, I represent these life forms, with the “Rhythm of Soul” series specifically shaping the inner life within me. The “Rhythm of Soul” series initially emerged from spontaneous doodling, revealing patterns within the blurred lines of my subconscious and conscious mind. As I observed children playing with the remnants of colored papers, I realized that unintentional shapes, discarded as paper waste, could create a new form of beauty. This concept struck me as a metaphor for life’s beauty, where the unplanned and discarded elements can unexpectedly give rise to something truly beautiful.
