Vivian Krishnan

Vivian Krishnan is a first time author and illustrator and multi-media artist with works that cross the vast stage of storytelling, from costume designing theatrical characters, to guerilla-publishing zines at local coffee shops. Creating accessible work and making space for stories centering minoritized people is her lifetime passion project. Vivian will be showcasing her illustrated children’s book KULA IN THE SKY. Set in precolonial Fiji, Kula and Yasi are sisters who have spent their whole life together, but when Yasi enters womanhood and her responsibilities change, she no longer has time to play with her little sister and Kula feels left alone in the dark. Kula goes on an emotional journey with her clever bat friend as she realizes that even though things will never go back to the way they used to be, it doesn’t mean she is less loved by the ones close to her. Along side the book, Vivian will be displaying her current body of work which focuses on pattern and personal motif derived from her Indo-Fijian background. Using both traditional and modern techniques, creating elegant prints on mulberry paper.
