Melissa Goldman

Melissa Goldman is an acrylic/mixed medium abstract artist. She has always loved art in all its forms but has found theatre and painting to be her home within the arts. Melissa began painting in 2017 and continued to explore different mediums and styles to paint in. She loves to explore pointillism in many forms as well as painting with paste and glue, playing with textures. Melissa’s paintings focus on reflections of herself, plays, series, movies, books, and emotions. She loves to paint while listening to a variety of music, but Rachmaninoff happens to be her favorite. Many of the paintings/art she creates is out of or for her love of others. Many of her art work throughout the years has been made and gifted to those she holds closely, but occasionally she does have art to sell! She’s inspired by the painting styles of Georges Seurat, Keith Haring, and Helen Frankenthaler.

Melissa had a collection of art displayed at The Station Theatre in Urbana for their production of Borderline April-May 2022, and a collection of egg themed art on display at The Station Theatre in Urbana for their production of 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche February-March 2023, in which all paintings were sold. In spring of 2023 she submitted 3 paintings to the Champaign County Town and Country art show in which two pieces: Chromium Pour and Allegorical Serotonin received blue ribbons. She will have a canvas titled My Moonlight up for a silent auction on May 5th at 25 O’clock Brewery in Urbana.

When not exploring art through painting you can find Melissa exploring theatre whether on stage or off stage. She holds an AA in theatre performance/vocal performance from Parkland College and a BFA from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in Theatre Studies: Dramaturgy and Directing. She is very grateful for her CU theatre community/family.

As you look at her art she wants you to think about the connections and relationships you hold with yourself and others. Is it beautiful? Is it fun? Is it messy? Or is it a work in progress? Regardless, make time for yourself to reflect and give yourself time to breathe. You deserve a connection with yourself most of all.
