My paintings are cinematic stills, scenes sans laugh track, and small dramas set in passing moments of the American everyday. I use animals in my art as stand-ins for humans who, in my art, face situations of everyday monotony; loneliness, waiting, being rushed, embarrassment, domestic disputes, feeling overwhelmed or aroused, not fitting in. They remain animals, individuals with feelings, possessions, instincts. Their surroundings feel uninviting, though they try to act as expected and begin adapting to their new conditions.
