Hua Nian

Originally from China, Hua Nian taught photo-journalism in Jinan University, Guangzhou, prior to pursuing a master’s degree in Art Education in the US. Besides giving art lessons and summer art camps to children in her home based studio in Urbana, IL, she is also an active working and exhibiting artist.

Her paintings appear in international and national art exhibitions; and her unique painting style has won awards at many local, state, and national shows. She and her works have been featured in American Artist Magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, Dialogue: An Art Journal, and in numerous local and Chinese newspapers and magazines, as well as cover art for books, music CDs, and posters produced by Stanford University, the University of Illinois, and many others. Her artwork is widely collected throughout the US.

What’s Your Story?: Artist in Residence Exhibit – Celebrate the collective exhibition of the Library’s Artists-in-Residence Curtis Chung, Nika Lucks, and Hua Nian as they explore the question “What’s Your Story?” through visual arts. Urbana Elementary School Art Exhibit – As part of the Boneyard Arts Festival, art teachers from all Urbana Elementary Schools are showcasing artwork from their programs.

The Gilbert Gallery

The Gilbert Gallery There are 42 artists represented for the festival. Artists will be painting and drawing outdoors; artists will be painting, printing, working with mosaics and more indoors both days. Hua Nian Art Studio

Featuring Hua Nian! Original acrylic paintings and small watercolors; pen and ink drawings of Marching Illini, sports, music, dances and animals; paper-tearing artwork about childhood and motherhood. Most of the artwork is on display in the studio and available for sale. Sunday 2-3:30pm: Free watercolor painting session for seniors (4 -10 participants, all materials provided) Please email for available space.
