I work in watercolor, colored pencil, occasionally enhanced with pastels. Mostly I create portraits of animals and nature themes, where I strive for realism. More recently I’ve drawn to more abstract work, based on the patterns that nature creates for us, as a means to explore high key color harmony and contrast.
I also like to experiment with small cradled canvases and sketchbook pages inspired by the OLLI classes I’ve taken over the years, where I’ve tried to visualize the topics we’re discussed, and I take great pleasure in making visual travel journals, both before and after a trip, to reimagine and capture the wildlife, objects, and environment I’ve seen or hope to see.
