Kari Keller

Kari Keller @dorkwithipad has been a Champaign/Urbana resident since 2008, originally hailing from the tiny town of St. Anne, IL. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a certificate in massage therapy, and considers herself a lifelong learner. She has had a passion for art since she could hold a crayon. She loves to experiment with many different styles, and rarely sticks to one theme for long. She has dabbled in cartoons, acrylic pouring, zentangles, patterns, logo design, and painting pottery, to name a few. Her influences include Alphonse Mucha, HR Geiger, the art of Northwest coastal Native Americans, and various cartoons and anime. She also has a thriving side business as a face painter. Kari is happiest when immersed in a new project and can’t imagine life without art!

My display for Gallery Art Bar was not intended to have a particular theme, but nonetheless, one emerged. I found myself painting and drawing with pastels a lot in the month leading up to this, and the color pink was especially prominent. Maybe subconsciously I was feeling the Spring vibes, and that came out in my work. My subject matter tends toward the whimsical, inspired by nature and cartoons.
