RIPPLES EXPRESSIVE ARTS & CU DANCE FESTIVAL
Our workshops will focus on exploring movement through breath, gravity, rhythm, and visual art.
No dance or visual art experience necessary.
Finding your Movement Within: Breath and Gravity (12- 12:45pm)
We experience movement everyday without having to think about it. Gravity affects us all in the same way. Walking, running, breathing, even the process of making breakfast in the morning, all of these actions are present and used frequently throughout dance. Our connection to gravity is what makes us move, and dance is a lens to view that movement.
“Dance is just movement, and movement is just how we interact with gravity”
Finding Your Rhythm Within: The Beat of the Body (1-1:45pm)
We hear a song we like, and we begin tapping our feet along with the beat. We walk, run, turn around, stamp our feet, drum our fingers, gesture, bend down, and reach up. We feel our hearts beat.
Explore how every day we are creating music through the movement of our bodies – expressing the whole range of human emotion.
“There is a dancer inside all of us expressing symphonies every day.” Tanya Picard
Finding Your Creativity Within: Unleashing Self-Expression (2-2:45pm)
If you observe young children you will see individuals fearlessly following their creative impulses–they move their bodies in interesting ways, play around with their voices, and make bold lines on paper. However, somewhere in our childhood many of us are given messages that cause us to inhibit our creative impulses. Yet creativity is our birthright and remains within us, waiting to be expressed. Explore your inner creativity with a brief expressive arts process. Learn to create for the power of the process- not the outcome.
