As an Artist, Hattie Cactus aims to create artworks that illustrate a world within a world with characters and storylines. She playfully creates art that has characters drawn with the intention of becoming a part of children’s books she’s diligently composing. However, a few of the characters are more surreal portraits and/or portraits made for smaller projects. She uses some commercially abstract gestures and some uncanny/detailed. The most important aspect of her art is its objective goal at delivering something enticing and whimsical. She takes the most influence from Surrealist Artists. Surrealism is a fine arts cultural movement defined mostly by is rejecting a rational vision of life in favor of one that asserted the value of the unconscious and dreams. There are many examples of surrealism in Hattie’s Artwork the most important one being that, the setting in most of her artwork is a conceptual place called the Jingle Jangle Grassy Garden. There are plenty other surreal features such as the use of vines, self-portraiture, bird characters with unique personalities, twisted and knotted longs squiggles/ribbons and isolation.
