Stacey Gross

I am an artist-educator living in Champaign. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a MA/BFA in Art Education and a studio concentration in photography. I have taught art, design, cinema studies and photography classes at Centennial High School for twenty-five years.

My interest in camera-less photography and the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi has led me to create images that embrace imperfection and unpredictability.  My photograms are created by placing objects onto a light-sensitive substrate and exposing it to light; areas that get the most light darken, depending on the opacity and surface contact of the objects on top. I love the process because of its immediacy and transformative nature.
