Farah Kesseiri
Through painting, I look for something beyond the horizon, all the space we carry within ourselves and from which the unexpected emerges.
My name is Farah Kesseiri, I make abstract paintings and figure drawings. Born on the North African coast of the mediterranean sea in Algeria. My country boasts a rich and diverse history, cultural exchange, and a population with complex genetic roots including indigenous Berber, Arab, European and Sub-Saharan African influences.
My art departs from realistic depictions, using a visual language of forms, lines and colors to create paintings that references the world I come from. Looking at the sea horizon often offered me a calming, meditative, “blue mind” state. I reflect on past and present experiences emphasizing on the expressive elements of color, gesture, and geometry. This allows for an open interpretation that moves beyond literal representation and explores inner feelings or concepts. I combine Acrylic, Watercolor/gouache paints for a more versatile experience. Through emotions and intuitive painting, I attempt to sublimate my art, working mainly to explore all the nuances of colors and each canvas invites me on a journey that I discover as it progresses.
