Wes Morefield
Wes Morefield is originally from McLean County, IL. He studied art at Heartland Community College, in Normal IL. He initially was interested in graphic design and was moved by the digital photography instructor’s teachings. Susanne-Marie-Langille showed her students the importance of being globally and environmentally mindful! As Wes finished his Associates degree there, he realized that he wanted to continue to pursue his Bachelor’s degree. Then found a prime opportunity to study at UNLV in Las Vegas. After learning the scientific magic of film photography, Wes took an Alternative Photography Processes course that blew his imagination wide open! He got to try Cyanotype, and Van Dyke Brown printing, Intaglio, Transfer –Drawing and Anthotype. What really set its hooks in were Screen-Printing and Image Transfer. The biggest take away from his Alt Photo course was to keep pushing the boundaries and keep refining your process.
Since returning to IL, Wes had kept gallery space in Bloomington for four years and continued the Image Transfer process by applying his own images to self-built wooden sculptures and more recently, found objects, such as an old window sash. Through his art, he is interested in drawing the connection between humanness and nature. He hopes that viewers find inspiration to explore their own connection to the world around them. Wes participated in Boneyard Arts Fest in 2022, recognized how supportive the art community is here, and has relocated to Champaign.
