Kaleb Wachala
By day, Kaleb Wachala works as an instructional coach and alternative education teacher in Champaign, Ford, and Vermilion counties. His passion is empowering young people to discover and live a life of purpose.
His art is an extension of that work. Whether using hands-on tools like pencil, ink, nibs, watercolor, and brushes, or doing a version of that same process on an iPad—as is done for this series—his style is heavily shaped by old-school American tattoo flash, relying on its bold lines and solid, heavy colors.
In this collection, Kaleb blends that aesthetic with words from Parker J. Palmer, a profoundly honest, compassionate, and reflective author and educator. His writings challenge us to listen to our lives, embrace our messy, whole selves, and walk directly into the fears and shadows we desperately try to avoid.
