Charlie Wisseman

Charles Wisseman is a retired Carle physician, with specialty in Pathology, now doing mixed media art. He does not have an art degree, but has taken numerous classes and workshops in a wide variety of materials, including metals, blacksmithing, glass, wood, alternative photo darkroom processes, resins, ceramics, bookbinding, hand papermaking. His work can include light, sound, interactive mechanism, found objects. Volunteering at the U of I book conservation lab showed him how the book and box forms can combine numerous elements in a sequence. His career in pathology gave him an appreciation of objects in cross-section and transillumination. He likes to work in series with particular patterns and symbols, using a variety of materials. Making things is his motivation to get up in the morning, and humor and the joy of materials and patterns are essential elements. A mixture of 2D and 3D work can be displayed.
